JANUARY 2025 SMALL BUSINESS OF THE MONTH: THIS OLD BUTCHER SHOPPE
This Old Butcher Shoppe brings transparency, sustainability to local meat market
This Old Butcher Shoppe is transforming the way people connect with their food.
Founded by Jessica Roosa, a Purdue graduate, in 2021, the shop offers a genuine farm-to-fork experience, emphasizing sustainable, regenerative agriculture. With pasture-raised pork, non-GMO-fed poultry and grass-fed lamb and beef, the Roosa family’s mission is to provide nutrient-dense, locally sourced meat while supporting soil health and sustainable farming practices.
The journey began when the Roosa family purchased farmland and shifted its focus to raising livestock. Over the years, they have built a thriving operation that includes a livestock harvest and meat processing facility in Colfax and of course, their Lafayette butcher shop.
In addition to providing responsibly sourced food, the shop serves as a space for fostering the next generation of farmers and butchers. By mentoring and supporting individuals interested in the craft, the business aims to build a sustainable agricultural future.
Beyond retail, the family partners with local farmers to distribute responsibly raised beef, pork and lamb to restaurants, retailers and institutional food businesses.
Their commitment to sustainability extends to empowering farmers and ensuring traceability, so customers know exactly where their food comes from. The Roosas have also expanded into agritourism, offering cabin rentals on their farm to connect visitors with the land.
Looking ahead, This Old Butcher Shoppe plans to open a third location in central Indiana and further promote regenerative agriculture while preserving the land for future generations.
Located at 3626 Braddock Drive, This Old Butcher Shoppe is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
