Essentially Aqua: Go-to shop for natural, sustainable body care honored as small business of the month

Essentially Aqua goes above and beyond in promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle for our community.

Located at 525 Main Street in downtown Lafayette, the shop is a haven for those looking for a more natural and fun way to cleanse, moisturize and exfoliate their skin.

This month, Essentially Aqua earned the title of Greater Lafayette Commerce’s Small Business of the Month for its entrepreneurial drive and commitment to providing outstanding products and customer service.

Owned by Aurora Wilson, the body and bath care business purveys body sprays, natural deodorants, bath scrubs, bath bombs, body butters, shampoo and conditioner bars and soaps – some of which look good enough to eat, including the Heavenly Honeysuckle Soap, which resembles a swirling slab of pink and white fudge.

Notably, every item is handcrafted in-house using natural and sustainable ingredients and eco-friendly packaging.

This business is personal.

In 2015, Aurora embarked on a quest to find a better way to take care of herself and her family – that included using body products that weren’t filled with harsh chemicals.

Recognizing the need for change, Aurora, began to learn about healthier alternatives for her family and herself. So, she started making her own body care products. After encouragement from her friends, she began selling them from her home, graduated to local farmers’ markets and craft shows before opening a brick-and-mortar location in 2019.

Essentially, Aqua also offers a unique way to show its customers some of the secrets behind the business. The Creation Station is a fun offering, inviting customers to create their own lotions, candles, bath bombs, soaps, and more.

Beyond supporting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle for its customers, Essentially Aqua is active in the community, often sponsoring community events and organizations, including the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Belladonna Rescue Sanctuary and various shop small and downtown initiatives.
