The Mitchell Agency honored for dedication to Lafayette, customers

The Mitchell Agency is protecting its client’s futures today by providing property and casualty insurance to customers throughout Indiana and the Midwest.

The firm was recently named March Small Business of the Month by Greater Lafayette Commerce for its, vision and commitment to the community and its customers.

Each month, the honor is given to a Greater Lafayette small business with 50 or fewer employees. The winning business excels in more areas than one – pride in their business and top-notch customer service, to name a few.

“Greater Lafayette Commerce congratulates you on being named Small Business of the Month – a well-deserved honor. And we thank you for your continued investment and involvement in our community,” said Scott Walker, president and CEO of Greater Lafayette Commerce.

The Mitchell Agency’s long and rich story began in 1885 when William C. Mitchell founded the firm in Lafayette. Initially, it encompassed a law practice, insurance agency, retail storage and abstracting business. But, in the 1920s, the firm separated the insurance division, and it has existed in its present form ever since.

Jack R. Bogan Sr. joined the firm in 1935. And the company has remained a family business since its inception. Today, it is directed by Jack R. Bogan Jr., who joined the agency in 1969.

Community involvement

City of Lafayette Mayor, Tony Roswarski emphasized how “special” The Mitchell Agency is to the community for its outstanding commitment to Lafayette.

“It really is a special honor for the City of Lafayette to recognize The Mitchell Agency. They’ve been such an important part of the community and the community’s history for many, many years,” said Tony Roswarski, Mayor of the City of Lafayette.

Added Roswarski: “The strength of any community is its people and its businesses that want to become good corporate citizens. And that’s the way The Mitchell Agency has always done things over the decades – being involved on so many commissions and boards and helping with so many projects.”

Indeed, The Mitchell Agency team has taken an active role in the community on various boards and non-profit organizations. Jack R. Bogan Jr. has received the distinguished Sagamore on the Wabash and Marquis d’ Lafayette, which is awarded by Greater Lafayette Commerce, for his and the Mitchell Agency’s contributions to the community. Recently, The Mitchell Agency made possible a $5,000 donation to Food Finders.

“We love The Mitchell Agency,” said Indiana State Representative, Sheila Klinker. “I’m delighted to be able to present this proclamation to The Mitchell Agency because you are a special agency, and we know many of you have been very, very much a part of this community and have made Lafayette what it is.”

Top-notch customer service

It's not just its dedication to the community that The Mitchell Agency is known for. The firm also has a well-established reputation for providing excellent customer service, having been recognized by industry associations and insurance companies on numerous occasions as national and Indiana Insurance Company of the Year.

Impressively, The Mitchell Agency’s client retention rate is 99 percent, an accomplishment The Mitchell Agency attributes to the exceptional tenure of many of its employees, several of whom have been with the firm for over 25 years.

“We are honored to receive this award. We are proud to be in an amazing community,” said Jackson Bogan, vice president of The Mitchell Agency. “We could not be prouder of our team. It’s the team that makes us Small Business of the Month. It’s the team that takes care of our clients. It’s the team that does it all.”
