JULY 2025 SMALL BUSINESS OF THE MONTH: COORS REMODELING

Coors Remodeling began in 1993, when Bart Coors saw an opportunity amid Greater Lafayette’s housing boom. Then a student in Physical and Health Education at Purdue University, Bart’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in. He noticed a growing demand for skilled trades — and a chance to earn a little money for college. With technical skills he had honed as a student in Benton Central High School’s Building Trades Program, Bart launched Coors Exteriors, taking on roofing and siding jobs with a handful of local crews. One residential exterior at a time, he laid the foundation for what would become one of the area’s leading construction companies.

At the time, Bart’s wife, Michelle, was teaching interior and fashion design at William Henry Harrison High School. She spent nearly 25 years in the classroom, while the business grew.

It wasn’t until 2018 that Michelle joined the company full-time. Her background in design brought a new dimension to the business, which had already started moving beyond exteriors. Together, the high school sweethearts hailing from Benton County redefined the company as Coors Remodeling — a full-service firm offering kitchens, bathrooms, additions and, increasingly, design services that help clients see what’s possible before the first tool is lifted.

Michelle leads consultations ranging from color selection and product specification to architecture and full interior and exterior design. As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, she also advises clients seeking home modifications that allow them to live comfortably and safely as they age.

In 2021, the family launched Heavenly Decks, a specialized division dedicated to crafting custom decks and railings, creating inviting outdoor retreats.

Over the past 32 years, the company has completed thousands of projects and built a reputation for integrity, craftsmanship, and care. Their headquarters at 3480 Kossuth Street in Lafayette houses a team that’s skilled and well-trained. Bart and Michelle, both Purdue graduates who value education deeply, have instilled a culture that prioritizes learning — whether it’s staying current on safety practices, mastering new product lines or refining process excellence.

Throughout its growth, Coors Family of Companies, which is located at 3480 Kossuth Street in Lafayette, has maintained a commitment to client care and quality. Many clients return for multiple projects, some requesting specific project managers by name. The company backs its work with a 10-year workmanship warranty and ensures every team member is vetted and trained to uphold rigorous standards in craftsmanship and safety.

“We’re not just a family company,” Bart and Michelle like to say, “we’re a company of families.” That ethos guides how they run their business, giving back through volunteerism and sponsorship of local organizations, including the Builders Association of Greater Lafayette, Boilermaker RTC, Greater Lafayette Commerce’s Golden Apple Awards, and a range of other civic causes.

Congratulations again to Coors Remodeling, GLC’s Small Business of the Month.
