Health Plan Discounts Available to Greater Lafayette Commerce Small Business Members
Greater Lafayette Commerce is partnering with Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana Inc. to offer a program called Health Matters, which offers a 5-percent discount on health insurance premiums.
“As our community’s business advocacy group, Greater Lafayette Commerce feels we must do all we can to help small businesses and their employees access the healthcare coverage market,” says Joseph Seaman, Greater Lafayette Commerce president and chief executive officer. “That led us to establish a partnership with Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, which offers managed care health insurance products and services.”
Small businesses already purchasing coverage through Physicians Health Plan can qualify for the same discount at their annual policy renewal if they are members of the local economic development group.
Greater Lafayette Commerce is one of 21 chamber groups in the area who are participating in the Health Matters program, says Mike Gibson, chairman of the Greater Lafayette Commerce board.
“This is a physician-governed company, founded in 1983. It is based in Indiana, and it is a not-for-profit managed care organization,” he says.
Greater Lafayette Commerce is not offering the coverage or insurance, he said, “But membership in Greater Lafayette Commerce gives small businesses access to the 5-percent discount,” Gibson says.
