Serving on a nonprofit board can be a great way to network and sharpen skills for community leadership. And, boards need age diversity; only 16% of all board members are under the age of 40! This means almost every nonprofit is looking for young leaders, but few prepare them for what board service actually looks like, leaving new board members struggling to understand the format of meetings, when to ask questions and what they should be looking for in terms of oversight. This lunch and learn session will explain the 10 basic roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards and the main duties associated with service. This will prepare young leaders to serve and provide tips about when to steer clear of an unhealthy board looking to recruit.
