This exhibition at the Haan Museum shows how Indiana’s extraordinary cultural legacy was formed. It tells the story of Indiana's art tradition through paintings by Indiana’s major artist groups. The entire range of Indiana art is on display, providing viewers with the opportunity to understand the scope of Indiana art and the key artists.
Indiana's four major art groups are well represented: the Hoosier Group, the Brown County Art Colony, the Richmond Group, and the Regionalist painters. Indianapolis was the center for many artists not associated with one of these groups, and they are well-represented.
The exhibition will include works by Hoosier Group artists T.C. Steele, J. Ottis Adams, Otto Stark, William Forsyth and R.B. Gruelle, Indiana’s most notable artists. A few of the other major artists included are Ada Shulz, Adolph Shulz, Edward K Williams, Will Vawter, John Bundy, Maude Eggemeyer, Robert Weaver, Harry Davis, and George Winter.
